Yiğit Bilal Makine (24), a student at İstanbul Commerce University, escaped a horrific death while having a winter-break in popular winter resort of Bursa’s Uludağ. He was about to freeze to death when he was found by a search and rescue team…
The film-like search and rescue operation took place on Tuesday after Mr Makine lost his way due to thick fog condition while skiing in popular winter resort of Bursa’s Uludağ. The third year student of İstanbul Commerce University left his hotel at about 2pm on the day to never return until found. He lost his way due to sudden and heavy snow that limited the visibility range to 2-meter in Kuşaklıkaya’s southern shoulder.
“Give your blessings,” wrote the young man on Twitter with a fear that he would never be able to see them again. Having run out of his mobile phone’s battery, Mr Makine also ran out of hope, but a gendarmerie search and rescue team managed to find him tracking signals of his mobile phone.
“I thought I was going to die. I was so scared. I was lost in an area that I had no knowledge of, and I asked for help by screaming as much as I could, but no one seemed to hear me. I was stuck in snow, and my legs nearly froze. I was just about to give up when the team arrived,” said Mr Makine after the film-like rescue that was also recorded on a camera.
