DOGAN NEWS AGENCY
Dogan News Agency (DHA), among the largest international news services, provides up-to-the-minute reports and video footage. DHA is owned by the Turkish Dogan Media Group, the largest media organization in Turkey. DHA is committed to keeping clients up-to-date and fully briefed on domestic Turkish and global developments alike. DHA was established in 1999 by former executives of the merged HHA (Hurriyet News Agency) and MILHA (Milliyet News Agency).

DHA delivers news reports, still photographs and video news to an array of major clients; within Turkey, this includes eight newspapers (Hurriyet, Milliyet, Posta, Radikal, Gözcü, Referans, Fanatik, Turkish Daily News), two television channels (CNN Türk and Kanal D), two radio stations, and websites affiliated with the Dogan Media Group; beyond Turkey we serve a wide variety of media organizations. DHA operates 15 top-notch mobile news production and redundant Ku-band satellite uplink trucks. Each month our dedicated staff in 81 bureaus produces over 6.000 stories, 3.000 video news footage reports and 11.000 still photographs. Our domestic news service, with its focus on political, social, cultural, economic and sports activities, transmits news to subscribers in Turkey; this is augmented by comprehensive on-location coverage of major regional and international developments.

DHA relies on an experienced array of more than 600 journalists, photojournalists and camera crews within Turkey. For additional news, DHA cooperates closely with Dogan Media Group member companies - CNN Turk and Kanal D. The team of highly-professional correspondents gives DHA a special edge -- the capacity to cover developments in all neighbouring countries -- from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia through Iran, Iraq and Syria to Greece and Bulgaria.

DHA also provides news reports, photographs and video news from the United States (New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles & Orlando), Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Egypt and Australia.

International news and photograph agencies such as the Associated Press, Reuters, EPA and Sipa Press all bank DHA to provide significant pictures for onward delivery to their subscribers around the world.

THE FIRST BOMBS TO SHAKE BAGHDAD - THE WORLD SEES VIA DHA
DHA's monthly feed to the group's two television channels within Turkey embraces almost 3,000 video news items. But our reach goes well beyond. When the initial U.S. air strikes shook Baghdad at the start of the Iraq War in 2003, DHA staff were on hand to capture the events as they happened; the video material was then transmitted by Reuters to the rest of the world. This won for DHA the most coveted Turkish Journalists' Association TV Coverage Award.

Always closely monitoring technological developments, DHA was the first Turkish agency to deploy videophones. Thanks to the DHA videophone, the first hours of the fall of Kirkuk in northern Iraq enabled CNN Turk to provide the only live coverage of that major development. The coverage was subsequently transmitted to the world through Reuters.

SUCCESS & DEDICATION RECOGNIZED
Just two months after being established, DHA won the Best Video News Award of the Turkish Radio and Television Journalists' Association: thanks to its improved transmission systems, DHA became the first news agency worldwide to broadcast to Turkish viewers the start of the US Afghanistan Operation. DHA's photograph of "Taleban prisoners" subsequently became the symbol of the Operation, the photo appearing on the covers of many leading international news magazines. DHA repeated this international success during the Iraq War. The bombs which shook Baghdad at the start of the US invasion were first reported by DHA and then transmitted to the world through Reuters. This success brought accolades in the form of the Turkish Journalists' Assembly's "Best Television News Coverage of the Year" award.

The opposition in Kyrgyzstan takes control of the capital Bishkek in the wake of anti-government protests over election irregularities. Protesters carrying yellow flags break through police lines and flood the principal government offices and the Presidential Palace. Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev resigns from his post and opposition leader Kurmanbek Bakiev is elected as the new President. DHA cameras record the dramatic events as the DHA picture of a protester riding a horse while carrying a yellow flag becomes the symbol of the revolution.

On March 22, 2004, Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmad Yassin is assassinated in an Israeli air raid on the Gaza Strip. DHA's Burcun Imir is witness to the dramatic development and provides detailed reports of both the Israeli operation and the funeral ceremony for Sheikh Yassin.

At the end of 2004, with the death of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, tens of thousands of Palestinians and many foreign leaders attend funeral ceremonies both within the Palestinian territories and in Egypt. DHA cameras are in Cairo and Ramallah to capture the world-wide tributes and the outpouring of emotion on the passing of the legendary Palestinian leader.

In December 2004 the EU summit is Brussels debates the critical issue of a start-date for membership negotiations for Turkey's entry into the EU. DHA provides extensive coverage of the summit, updating clients with the latest video from Brussels and records the EU decision to establish a start-date for the accession talks.

Also in December 2004, Indonesia emerges as country worst-hit by the by Tsunami disaster. At least 120.000 people die in Indonesia alone, mostly in the Bande Aceh province of Sumatra. DHA provides both Turkish and foreign clients with dramatic pictures of the disaster as aid and rescue teams rush in from around the world to alleviate the suffering of survivors from the great calamity which takes more than 200,000 lives in 13 countries.

Inside Turkey, DHA crews are among the first on the scene as twin car bombs target the Neve Shalom and Beth Israel synagogues in Istanbul, attacks which claim dozens of lives. World leaders condemn the incident as DHA rapidly provides the first video of the attack which attracts massive international media attention.

DHA reporter Faruk Zabci's photograph of Afghan prisoners, published worldwide, becomes an enduring symbol of the United States-led Operation in Afghanistan against the Taliban.

From the White House, DHA covers the critical meeting between US President George W. Bush and Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting is of inordinate interest as it serves to re-consolidate the strategic bi-lateral relations which had been harmed following Turkey's refusal to allow the US to use Turkish territory to ferry troops into northern Iraq prior to the outbreak of the Iraq War.

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while presiding over the opening ceremony of a new Istanbul park , is slightly injured when falling from his horse. For days, DHA cameras' frame-by-frame recording of the fall is the talk of the national media.

Forty one migrants from Mauritania, Somalia and Iraq are discovered in desperate condition in the back of a lorry in Yalova province. They are on the verge of suffocating to death for lack of air. DHA is the only news organization on hand and records how anxious local anxiously try to revive the migrants first by spraying water into the vehicle.

European countries criticise Turkey for failing to meet EU norms after various such incidents. DHA is also on the scene when riot police break up an unauthorized rally on the occasion of World Women Day; 59 of the protesters are taken into custody.

In February 2, 2004, an 11-storey building collapses in the city of Konya; faulty engineering and violation of building codes costs 92 lives. All Turkey is shocked to the core as DHA cameras record the disaster at close quarters.

DHA provides extensive coverage of the massive earthquake which devastated many places in north-eastern Turkey on August 17th, 1999. The agony of the towns and villages directly involved is a national tragedy. In the years that follow DHA provides ongoing coverage of the consequences of the catastrophe which claimed tens of thousands of lives.

DHA covers cultural activities all around the world via its bureaus abroad; a special hit is the performance of Sufi dancers before a packed hall of 1000 celebrity guests at the University of California.

DHA makes a particular effort to keep the environment issue on the national agenda; special attention is given to news stories and video clips about "crimes" against nature and maltreatment of animals.

DHA is the only Turkish media company to cover the inaugural Islamic Solidarity Games held in Saudi Arabia. During the 11-day sporting jamboree A total of 6.000 athletes from 55 Muslim countries contest 31 events in Mecca, Medina, Taif and Jeddah.

The memorable 2005 Champions League soccer final between Liverpool and AC Milan in Istanbul is broadcast live to more than 200 countries. DHA supports its Turkish and foreign clients with special footage including aerial shots before and after the game, and furnishes fans with up-to-the-minute stories on latest developments in the camps of both teams.

The Renault F1 Road Show hits Turkey on May 15, 2005 before the staging of the historic inaugural Istanbul Formula-1 Grand Prix race in August. DHA is on hand to cover live champion driver Fernando Alonso's demonstration drive at the city's famous Sultanahmet Hippodrome.

DHA collaborates closely with fellow Dogan Media Group member company Galaxy Teknik. This guarantees DHA strong technical support to cover major events of international interest from Turkey and neighbouring countries: the Turkey v England football international; the terrorist bombings in Istanbul; the referendum in Cyprus; The Eurovision Song Contest; the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, etc.

With well-placed medium-term and long-term technological investment plans, DHA has sited purpose-built vehicles and jeeps equipped to service news teams in more than 20 well-located cities around Turkey.
