The verdict came some 6 years after the incident took place in Semdinli town of Hakkari in southeastern Turkey. A bomb exploded in a bookstore in Şemdinli town on 9 November 2005. The PKK was suspected at the first instance, but it was later understood that paramilitary forces may have been involved in the bombing.

Ali Kaya and Özcan İldeniz, two non-commissioned officers, and Veysel Ateş, a PKK informant, were caught red handed in the incident, and they were sentenced to 39 years 10 months and 27 days each on Tuesday.
