Upon a notification, Gendarmerie Special Operations Forces lied in an ambush near Heybeli village of Mardin’s Nusaybin town in Mardin, in southeastern Turkey, at about 7pm on Tuesday. They shot two people just a few hours later after mistaking them for PKK members, killing one of them and injuring the other.

Yusuf Akın (36) was killed in the incident, and Mehmet Eren (58) was seriously injured, and taken to Mardin Public Hospital for treatment. The two were reported to be carrying pipes, which were mistakenly detected as rifles by soldiers and caused the death of one of the villagers and the serious injuries of the other.

An investigation about the incident continues.
