A number of addresses throughout İstanbul were raided by the police on Tuesday night as part of an operation against illegal organisations PKK and DHKP-C. The operations were carried out in Sultangazi, Gaziosmanpaşa, Fatih, and Esenler districts of İstanbul, and 4 of PKK, M.K., Ş.K., R.S., and A.C., and 2 of DHKP-C gunmen were arrested. One of the four PKK gunmen is reported to have been trained in the organisation’s training camp in the Mount Qandil, in northern Iraq.

It has been informed by the authorities that the arrested gunmen had plans of attacks on certain anniversaries. The PKK gunmen intended to launch attacks on the anniversary of the arrest of the head of the outlawed organisation, Abdullah Öcalan, on 15 February, while the DHKP-C group was planning to hit a number of targets on the anniversary of Kızıldere incidents on 30 March, in which 10 leftist militants were killed by special forces in 1972.

An amount of bomb-making materails were also captured during the police operation.
