Azerbaijan flag burned at the opening of the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan

During the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, yesterday, an unidentified person set the Azerbaijani flag on fire, snatching the Azerbaijani flag from the flag bearer’s hand.

At the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship, which was held in Yerevan, broadcasted live on international televisions, the flags of the countries participating in the championship began to be brought to the stage by the flag bearers. During the live ceremony, a person who came to the stage and grabbed the Azerbaijani flag from the flag bearer and set it on fire.

An officer intervened and escort the person who burned the flag off the stage. While this behavior aimed at disrupting the peace process was criticized by the local press, the burning of the Azerbaijani flag was strongly condemned in the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and demanded that the person be punished.
