Türk Telekom announces a trial of TIP driven Disaggregated Cell Site Gateway solution

Türk Telekom has announced today the launch of a trial of a Disaggregated Cell Site Gateway (DCSG) solution that will form a part of its latest nationwide IP network. It is stated that running on Edgecore whiteboxes designed in compliance with the DCSG requirements, the solution provides feature-rich DCSG functionality implemented by IP INFUSION’s OcNOS operating system (NOS).

BARCELONA, (DHA)-

Türk Telekom, the owner of many patents in the fields of both fixed and mobile networks, stated that it continues to help productization on a global scale with the support it gives to projects created to address 5G’s needs. As a promoter of open architectures, Türk Telekom announced that it started its trials in the mobile transport domain with Telecom Infra Project (TIP), in order to meet its growing capacity needs and to simplify the installation process that comes with 5G. It is stated that regarding this matter, by Open Transport trials conducted jointly with TIP, Türk Telekom gives support for developing flexible, efficient and secure mobile transport networks.

In a written statement from the company, it is stated that this solution, which has been tested in competition and alongside other solutions from the established ecosystem, reinforces Türk Telekom strategy for open and disaggregated networks, and represents a clear indicator of the maturity of DCSG solutions, and its technical and economic feasibility. DCSG will help Türk Telekom to cost-effectively roll out nationwide 5G mobile services at scale. It will give Türk Telekom flexibility to build vendor-neutral disaggregated 5G connectivity networks using best-in-class components. Designed within the TIP DCSG subgroup, part of the Open Optical and Transport (OOPT) Project Group, the solution uses open, standard-based, disaggregated network components able to mix-and-match in different combinations that permit overall deployment and operational efficiencies while supporting the development of a stronger and more diverse supply chain. Also, as an integral part of its specification, DCSG incorporates Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies for network management automation, fully aligned with Mandatory Use Case Requirements for SDN for Transport (MUST) subgroup requirements in TIP to enable a smooth integration with BSS/OSS operator maps, and an increase in network automation.

Mr. Yusuf Kırac, CTO at Türk Telekom, said:
“In Türk Telekom, we are supporting open networks to achieve flexibility and efficiency and to promote a stronger ecosystem in our networks. Being able to share common goals and coordinated actions within TIP and with our peer operators, represents an excellent framework to accelerate the development and availability of an open IP Transport. As our collaboration with TIP and its ecosystem partners continue to grow, we believe that we will undertake many important projects together.”

Bhartendu Chaurasia, Connectivity Technologies and Ecosystems Manager at Meta and Head of TIP Technologies Europe and Middle East, said:
“TIP has assessed and fostered a DCSG ecosystem and we are excited to see that the adoption of open and disaggregated solution for transport continues to grow. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Türk Telekom on open networking innovation projects.”
