Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the UK government

The owner of Chelsea, Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, announced on March 2 that he has decided to sell the UK’s football club. He stated that in line with this decision, the income from the sale will be donated to a foundation to be established for victims of war in Ukraine. However, the British government decided to impose sanctions on seven people, including Roman Abramovich, who are thought to be close to Putin. The assets of the Russian businessman in UK were frozen and a travel ban was imposed on Abramovich. Aftermath, the sale of Chelsea Club has turned into a serious uncertainty at this stage.

Nadine Dorries, Secretary of the UK Government's Office of Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports, said that this decision was taken to protect the Chelsea club, emphasizing that football clubs are a cultural asset and are seen as one of the cornerstones of society.
