The Turkish miner rescued 6 of his friends from the mine, and died later in the mine
The Turkish miner Yener Saygin, who survived the explosion in Amasra, didn't take the elevator to the surface during the accident instead returned to save 6 injured friends. It was understood later he dropped his gas mask and died in the mine.

Yener Saygin's father, retired miner Faik Saygin (72), said, “Yener, during the accident, saved 6 of his friends from the bottom of the accident area. He dropped his gas mask during the rescue and that caused his death. Yener was a committed person.”
Yener Saygin's older brother Omer Saygin (52) said, “Yener was a courageous boy, as bold as brass. We learned that Yener didn't take the elevator to the surface, came back and saved 6 of his friends, and he showed a great example of heroism.”
